Rome Gay Bars

There aren’t many gay districts that bask in the shadow of one of the world’s oldest and most recognisable structures, but Rome’s aptly named Gay Street, leads directly to the infamous Colosseum. Unlike its notably brutal neighbour, Gay Street is as welcoming and warm as gay districts come, boasting a fantastic range of gay bars and clubs. These venues have something for any gay traveler, and you could easily spend all night exploring the countless bars that line this historic street.

Located next to the Colosseum, Coming Out is an institution in Rome's gay scene. This bistro café bar is unseal all day and has various themed nights. Tuesday night is for karaoke while drag queens take to the stage on Sundays and occasional Wednesdays.

Friendly staff. Popular and busy in the evenings. Upstairs is a gay bed & breakfast that offers good value-for-money, air-conditioned guest rooms.

Like most Italian cities, the Rome gay scene is petite; particularly since there are not many gay bars in Rome. When I first came here in , there were just the two staple bars on the gay street next to the Colosseum: Coming Out and My Bar.

But in recent years, the gay Rome bars have started to take off in popularity, and they are not all centered around the Colosseum (although close enough to the town center).

On top of it, unlike in other European countries, Rome's gay bars often double as trattorias or place to acquire an aperitivo, but that is quintessential Italians for you, who are serious about combining alcohol intake with long, leisurely dinners 🤌.

The best advice is to come early for dinner or aperitivo and leave late to head to some of Rome's gay clubs or gay parties.

So let's explore the eternal city's best gay bars!

Gay Rome

With its unparalleled collection of ancient ruins, awe-inspiring art, and magnificent architecture, Rome offers a journey through time and civilization. Rome's character is equally shaped by its modern vitality, with neighborhoods like Trastevere offering a glimpse into local life, while the Spanish Steps and Via del Corso cater to the fashion-conscious.

You'll find a decent gay scene in Rome, although it's smaller and more discrete than you might expect. You'll locate more clubs and late-night events than gay bars as the gay scene in Rome tends to pick up later at night. Rome Pride, an annual celebration, draws a spirited crowd to the heart of the city, reflecting the growing acceptance and visibility of the LGBTQ+ community.

Regardless of where else you may want to travel, you can build your whole Italy trip around Rome. You'll yearn to explore The Colosseum, the Roman Forum and St Peter's Square, and Basilica. Then there's Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. The city's culinary scene is an homage to Italian flavors, boasting tra
