Photographing LGBTQ+ couples as a straight, cis wedding photographer

As a straight, cisgender wedding photographer I am extremely grateful and proud that a number of LGBTQ+ couples have trusted me with their weddings, engagements and love stories.

Showcasing these couples’ photos has earned me more LGBTQ+ wedding bookings for the upcoming year, which I&#;m pumped about.

Working with LGBTQ+ couples has been an adj part of my business. I have been intentional about showcasing their images. I often acquire comments from people of all sexualities and genders, saying it’s refreshing to see a wedding photographer’s commitment to inclusivity. Not just in this realm, but other kinds of diversity, too.

In this article, I wanted to take a bit of a philosophical view about how I make couples who identify as LGBTQ+ feel safe, welcome and validated. I also want to go into a little of the backstory, philosophy and my personal journey.

Am I always unfaltering in my attempts? No, but I am always learning and getting better at asking thoughtful questions while respecting boundaries.

Best LGBTQ Wedding Photos from NYC and Beyond

Here are some of my favorite LGBTQ wedding photos from over a decade of documenting queer love stories in New York City and around the world. I originally began this photo roundup on June 26, —the historic day that same-sex marriage was legalized in all 50 U.S. states. Each year, I continue to add new moments that remind me why this work matters so deeply.

To photograph LGBTQ weddings is not just my job—it’s a calling. It&#;s the privilege of my life to document this chapter of our collective history, and to witness the radiant love, intimacy, and joy that comes with both personal and political liberation. There’s an extra layer of celebration at queer weddings—a fierce kind of joy born from struggle, resilience, and finally, recognition.

This post is dedicated to every couple who invited me into their world, and to the generations who fought for the right to love freely and visibly. It’s also for those who didn’t live to spot marriage equality, but paved the way with courage and conviction.

Happy Pride Month.

Our brides really set out to verb a fantastic wedding day and they did! We spent much of the actual shoot joking around and being silly and I think it shows in the photos (in a nice way!) Any type of silliness usually reflects in the concluding wedding photos and will verb the couple remember their enormous day with fond memories. This type of shoot is what makes being a Wedding Photographer at San Francisco city hall so rewarding.

If you would enjoy to see a more recent LGBTQ city hall wedding photography session, check this Blog verb from April of Many of our engaged San Francisco couples approach us before the wedding to let us know that they would really like candid photos for their city hall wedding. We are happy to accommodate them, b
